Slingshot Weekly (7/9/25) | Every Vision is a Roadmap

Jul 09, 2025

We often treat dreams like distant stars - beautiful, but unreachable. We talk about them with “somedays” and “maybes,” thinking they require perfect timing or a miraculous moment of motivation. But what if that vision you keep thinking about isn’t some far-off fantasy?

What if it’s actually a set of instructions?

Every dream you carry is more than just imagination. It’s your mind showing you what could be - if only you paused long enough to listen. Vision isn’t just wishful thinking. It’s a compass, a draft, a first sketch of a future version of you.

Let’s call it what it is: A blueprint. A guide. A roadmap.

Just like an architect doesn’t build a house without a plan, you don’t need to guess your way forward. Your dream has data. It reveals what excites you. What energizes you. What kind of impact you want to make. That’s not fluff. That’s clarity.

And here’s the part most people miss: You don’t need to take massive leaps. You just need to take the next small, intentional step.

The real reason many people “stop” isn’t because they lack motivation - it’s because they haven’t broken their dream down. When you look at a full staircase, it can feel overwhelming. But one step? You can do that.

Here’s what that might look like in action:

  • Love the idea of launching your own business? Start by researching one person who’s done it in your community.

  • Dream of becoming a nurse, an engineer, a youth coach? Schedule one informational interview with someone in that field.

  • Feel pulled to create, write, build, or teach? Set a timer for 20 minutes and just start.

Each of those small steps is a part of your roadmap.

We like to say “trust the process,” but it starts by trusting the vision. You wouldn’t sketch the first line of a painting unless you believed it was going somewhere. So why second-guess your dream?

If you’re waiting for a sign, this is it: Stop shelving your dream. Study it. Sketch it. Break it down.

And most importantly - START.

Reflect on this:

  • What dream have you placed on the shelf because it felt too big or too far away?

  • What micro-action could you take this week to move one step closer to it?

  • If you believed your dream was the map, not the destination—how would that change how you act today?
