Slingshot Weekly (10/29/25) | Why Rest is NOT The Enemy

Oct 29, 2025

Picture this: you’re driving with the gas light on.

You keep telling yourself, “I’ll make it a little further.” You know you should stop, but there’s always another mile, another errand, another reason to keep going. Eventually, you’re running on fumes and when the car stops, it doesn’t matter how important your destination was. You can’t get there without fuel.

Life works the same way.

So many of us operate with that same low-fuel mentality. We pour into work, relationships, and responsibilities while ignoring the blinking warning signs on our own dashboard. We silence exhaustion, push through stress, and call it strength. We tell ourselves that rest can wait until the next milestone, forgetting that every delay costs us more energy than we think. Running on empty doesn’t make you strong- it makes you stalled. You can’t pour from a tank that’s already dry.

What if refueling wasn’t a luxury, but a discipline? What if rest was part of progress, not the opposite of it?

Refueling doesn’t always require a massive life overhaul. Sometimes, it’s found in the small and intentional. A morning walk without your phone. A genuine conversation with someone who grounds you. Saying no to one more thing that doesn’t align with your priorities. Or simply choosing sleep over scrolling. These small moments don’t just replenish energy - they restore clarity. Because when you’re rested, you think differently. You see opportunities more clearly. You make decisions from intention, not survival. You remember why you started in the first place.

We live in a culture that praises the nonstop hustle but forgets to honor recovery. The danger of that mindset is subtle: we start believing that slowing down means falling behind. But slowing down isn’t stopping. It’s adjusting your pace so you can actually go the distance. Your tank deserves to be full not just for you, but for the people and dreams that rely on you to show up well.

So this week, pause and check your fuel. What’s draining you? What’s filling you? What needs to shift so you can keep moving toward what matters most?

You can’t keep running on fumes and expect to thrive. You’re meant for more than that. You’re meant to arrive - with energy, clarity, and purpose still intact.

Reflection Questions:

  1. When was the last time you gave yourself permission to rest?

  2. What small habits consistently refill your tank?

  3. How does exhaustion affect your ability to stay aligned with your goals?

  4. What would it look like to refuel before you’re forced to stop?
