Slingshot Weekly (9/10/25) | Why You Should Crave Curiosity

Sep 10, 2025

We’ve been trained to crave certainty. To make pros and cons lists. To plan five steps ahead. To wait until everything makes sense before moving forward.

But what happens when life hands you a blank page instead of a detailed map? For most people, that’s when the freeze sets in. The pressure to get it “right” on the first try feels overwhelming. So we stall, waiting until every answer is in place before daring to move.

Here’s the truth: clarity rarely comes first. What often comes first is curiosity.

Curiosity doesn’t need a polished destination. It doesn’t demand perfection. It just asks for a starting point - a willingness to explore. Curiosity opens the door to possibility and gives us permission to move forward even when the picture isn’t complete. Think about the shift from “I need to know everything” to “I wonder what I might learn.” That simple re-frame changes everything. Fear loosens its grip. Creativity wakes up. Your attention shifts from getting it “right” to discovering what’s possible.

Curiosity invites you into movement, into play, into paths you wouldn’t have noticed if you were only focused on avoiding mistakes.

It doesn’t remove the unknown, but it changes your relationship with it. Suddenly, uncertainty stops being the enemy. Instead, it becomes an invitation. History and personal experience both remind us of this. Scientific discoveries often begin with questions, not answers. Artists and innovators rarely start with certainty - they begin with curiosity. Even in our everyday lives, the best moments often come not from sticking to a rigid plan, but from following the spark of wonder.

So what if, instead of seeing uncertainty as a threat, you saw it as an invitation to learn more about yourself? What if the blank page wasn’t something to fear, but a space to create, explore, and grow?

This week, resist the urge to fill every gap with an immediate answer. Instead, let curiosity lead the way. Ask different questions. Notice what draws your attention. Pay attention to what sparks your wonder.

Because sometimes the unknown isn’t where progress stops - it’s where your most important work begins.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What past challenge reminds you that you’re more resilient than you think?

  2. Which “you’re not ready” thought has been holding you back the most?

  3. What small action can you take this week to prove readiness is a mindset?
